Narrative

GASTON, SC – An 87-year-old woman from Columbia died on Thursday in a single-vehicle accident on the eastern outskirts of Gaston.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on the southbound side of Old Sandy Run Road near Pine Plain Road, which is just southeast of the Sandy Run Post for the American Legion Riders.

Police say that the driver lost control of her vehicle and struck an embankment and several trees after leaving the roadway.

Medics transported the victim, identified as Elfriede Kreutzer, to the hospital, where she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
