Narrative
CLINTON, SC – One person died, and another person sustained injuries Wednesday in a crash involving an 18-wheeler along the interstate in east-central Laurens County.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. on the westbound side of I-26 near mile marker 55 in the city of Clinton. This is just northwest of Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests.
Police say that a semi-truck sideswiped a vehicle hauling a camper that was stopped on the shoulder of the interstate for a tire repair. Following the collision, the truck caught fire and crashed after travelling down an embankment.
The driver of the semi died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet disclosed their identity to the public.
The other driver, who was fixing a tire on his vehicle at the time of the accident, also sustained injuries. It’s unclear if he required hospitalization.
A full investigation is underway.
