Narrative

SIMPSONVILLE, SC – A 60-year-old woman died last Wednesday after a hit-and-run car struck her disabled vehicle along the interstate in Simpsonville.

The accident happened last Tuesday, January 18th, on the southbound side of I-395 near exit 29 for West Georgia Road. This is southeast of the junction with I-185.

Police say that the victim was standing alongside her Honda HR-V after it became disabled on the interstate. A 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 rear-ended the SUV, which then pinned the victim between the two vehicles.

Medics transported the driver of the Honda, identified as Anita Vergara Pecora, to the hospital, where she died the next day from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 50-year-old Travis Desmond Hawkins, fled the scene. Authorities found and arrested Hawkins Wednesday, charging him with a hit-and-run accident resulting in death.

The investigation is ongoing.
