Narrative

GEORGETOWN, SC – A man and a woman died on Saturday afternoon in Georgetown after a two-vehicle collision along the highway in Georgetown.

The incident happened just after 12:50 p.m. on Highway 17 at Hobcaw Road, which is just east of the river and just north of the Clemson University Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a northbound 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe struck a northbound 2023 Chevrolet Malibu. Both occupants of the Malibu sustained fatal injuries and died after transport to local hospitals.

Authorities have identified the victims as Michael and Margaret Alley of Maryland.

Medics also transported the driver of the Hyundai to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
