Narrative

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — A 33-year-old cyclist sustained fatal injuries last Thursday when an 18-wheeler hit her on the north side of Mount Pleasant.

The accident occurred shortly after noon near the intersection of Long Point Road and the eastbound off-ramp for I-526. This is just west of Belle Hall Shopping Center and about six miles east of Charleston.

Police haven’t yet determined the cause or circumstances of the collision. They say that the bicyclist, identified as Mackensey Griffiths, died after transport to an area hospital.

It’s unclear if the driver of the semi-truck sustained injuries in the crash.

Motorists likely faced delays on Long Point Road in the area of the accident while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
