Narrative
CHARLESTON, SC – A 42-year-old woman died, and several others were hurt Saturday in a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Charleston.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. in the area of Meeting Street and Reid Street, which is north of Wragg Mall Park and the Aiken-Rhett House Museum.
Police say they attempted to stop a U-Haul truck when the driver fled towards downtown, ultimately hitting two pedestrians and a Mercedes. This initial crash pushed the Mercedes into a motorcycle, which then hit a Chevy Tahoe.
A passenger on the motorcycle, identified as Shinique Toussaint-Allah from Charleston, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the wreck.
Medics transported seven additional victims to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
It’s unclear if the driver of the U-Haul will face charges.
A full investigation is underway.
